Kings Lynn Signal Box Works

Signalling life extension works were required at King Lynn station in order to keep it fully operational until 2022 when the area is likely to then be resignalled. Rail Tech Group undertook various installation activities on behalf of May Gurney, who were Network Rail’s appointed main contractor on the project. The signal box itself contained a mechanical lever frame with hybrid mechanical and relay interlocking. The signal box also contained signalling indications mounted on a block shelf with an illuminated track diagram that also controlled an adjacent MCB crossing. Working conditions within the signal box were challenging as it involved running hundreds of metres of new wire and cabling in tight and cramped conditions. Rail Tech Group also supported May Gurney on the final commissioning where problems such as existing infrastructure failing and unexpected train movements added to the complex nature of the project.
