Great Chesterford Re-Signalling works

The primary objective of the Great Chesterford Re-Signalling scheme was to modernise an existing free wired RRI signalling interlocking system with a newly interfaced SSI interlocking system. One of the key risks of the project was the impact of installing a newly interfaced SSI and its associated power supplies within the confines of the existing Great Chesterford relay room.
To undertake this significant change a three staged commissioning had to be implemented. The first stage required the installation, testing and commissioning of the new interlocking equipment. The second stage concentrated on the removal of the existing relay interlocking. The third stage focused on the relocation of the new interlocking to the existing Great Chesterford relay room. Part of the re-signalling programme included the requirement for 14 additional new location cases.
Over a continuous period of five months Rail Tech Group played a significant role on this re-signalling scheme by supporting Signalling Solutions with dedicated signalling staff. All installation works were undertaken under the direct supervision of the incumbent Signalling Solutions project team. Rail Tech Group’s installation work was highly commended throughout the project, particularly the standard of intricate wiring work in location cases and REB’s.
