Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal
Signalling and Telecoms Works.

In May 2010 work started on DIRFT 2, a multi-million pound project that was awarded to contractor VolkerFitzpatrick. The project featured a new rail port and held planning consent to build a new 1.95 million square feet development that had both distribution and manufacturing sections for large known companies including Tesco, DHL and Royal Mail. VolkerFitzpatrick selected the Rail Tech Group as their preferred contractor for the signalling and telecommunications works associated with the new rail port depot. Works included the installation of new cables, new clamplock type point machines, location case alterations and the construction of a new interlocking rack in the R.E.B. Additional works included the installation a 300m trough route and the construction of location case bases. As a variation to the original scope Rail Tech Group were asked to install a new telephone system that provided a vital link between Crick crossing and the Rail Port Controller. The final stages of commissioning the new signalling works were completed over a 54 hour blockade in May 2012, with all works completed to time and within budget.
